Engine detonation – untimely or independent ignition of the fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber, which is characterized by the explosive nature of the fuel combustion process. It is accompanied by a shock wave, an increase in temperature inside the combustion chamber and its enhanced coking. In terms of its destructive effect on the constituent elements of the engine ( CPG and KShM ), detonation ranks first in the list of abnormal fuel combustion processes, such as glow ignition ( CI ) and dieseling.
