The crank position sensor is used in the ignition system of an internal combustion engine. It communicates with a car’s powertrain control module (PCM), which controls how much fuel goes into the cylinders and when spark plugs should fire, to keep the engine running smoothly. The crankshaft position sensor provides information about how fast or slow you’re going and when the engine is firing. This information allows the PCM to make sure you get good fuel economy, plenty of power and low emissions.
