A clutch is a mechanism that allows the transmission of power from one component (the engine) to another (the gearbox, and ultimately, the driving wheels). It usually consists of two metal plates pressed together by springs. When pressure is applied to one plate by the driver’s foot through the pedal, it causes the other plate to move.
